Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Not-for-profit or voluntary organizations serving persons with disabilities
  • Organizations and institutions supported by provincial or territorial entities
  • Municipalities in partnership with disability organizations
  • Indigenous organizations, including band councils, tribal councils, and self-government entities

Eligible expenses

  • Wages and benefits
  • Professional fees
  • Travel and accommodations
  • Materials, supplies, printing, and communications
  • Equipment rental or lease, administration costs, capital assets, disability supports, and event accessibility services

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Costs incurred before the funding agreement is signed
  • Core operating costs, including rent, utilities, insurance, and regular phone or heating costs
  • Proposal preparation costs
  • Construction, renovation, fundraising, and lobbying costs
  • Staff salary bonuses and alcoholic beverages

  • Alignment with the program objectives.
  • Clear, achievable activities within the proposed timeline.
  • Expected outputs and outcomes are S.M.A.R.T.
  • Project costs are eligible and support the activities.
  • Priority is given to disability participation, scale-up potential, and underrepresented communities.

How to apply

  • Step 1: Prepare your application
    • Complete the application form.
    • Complete the Budget Detail Template.
    • Gather proof of business number or acceptable alternative.
    • Include partnership letters, if applicable.
  • Step 2: Submit your application
    • Apply through Grants and Contributions Online Services (GCOS), or
    • Send the complete package by email, or
    • Send the complete package by mail to the designated Gatineau address.
  • Step 3: Receive confirmation
    • GCOS applicants receive an immediate acknowledgment and tracking number.
    • Mail applicants receive an acknowledgment by email within 14 days.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are screened for eligibility and completeness first.
  • Eligible applications are assessed against the program objectives and priorities.
  • Additional selection considerations include national coverage, partnerships, and geographic distribution.
  • Applicants are notified in writing of the funding decision.
  • A funding agreement must be signed before any project activities begin.
