Overview
This program funds capital and pilot projects for eligible charities, up to $15,000 for capital projects and $10,000 for pilot projects. It supports initiatives that address demonstrated community needs and align with Nanaimo Foundation’s mission.

Eligibility
- The applicant must be a registered charity or other qualified donee under the Income Tax Act.
- The organization must operate within Nanaimo-Ladysmith School District 68.
- The organization must demonstrate fiscal responsibility and effective management.
- The organization must demonstrate inclusiveness and respect for diversity and equity.
- The proposed project must align with Nanaimo Foundation’s mission.

- Organizations that are not registered charities or qualified donees under the Income Tax Act.
- Organizations that do not operate within Nanaimo-Ladysmith School District 68.

Selection criteria
- Demonstrated community need and likelihood of effectiveness.
- Potential for the project to serve as a model to others.
- Use of community strengths to respond to identified issues and priorities.
- Alignment with Nanaimo Foundation’s mission.
How to apply
Step 1: Prepare letter of intent
- Write a summary of the organization.
- Describe the community needs addressed by the project.
- List partnerships (if applicable).
- Provide a brief description of activities.
- Include project start and end dates.
- State the requested amount and how it will be allocated.
- Include the organization’s charitable number.
- Include applicant contact details.
- Save the letter of intent as a PDF attachment.
- Use the subject line “Letter of Intent – Organization Name”.
- Keep the letter within two pages or 1,000 words.
- Email the PDF letter of intent to the program contact during the intake period.
- Submit between October 1 and November 30.
Processing and Agreement
- Funding is distributed to successful applicants in the summer of the following year.
Additional information
- Successful applicants receive funding in the summer of the following year.
- The initial submission is limited to a Letter of Intent (maximum two pages or 1,000 words).
