Overview
Music PEI’s Microgrant Program offers up to eight grants of $500 each to Prince Edward Island artists to support projects that build their professional profile and encourage greater participation in the local music industry. Funding can be used for eligible activities such as demo recording, live show production, graphic design, photo and video production, and marketing and advertising costs.

Eligibility
- The primary artist and/or the majority of the group must have a permanent address in Prince Edward Island.
- The applicant must have been a resident of Prince Edward Island for at least six months before applying.
- The project must relate to professional music activities such as demo recording, live show production, graphic design, photo or video production, or marketing and advertising.
- The application must clearly describe the artistic project, its goals, timeline, and include relevant creative content (e.g. audio, video, lyrics, designs) and artist/band information.

- Organizations and artists based in Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada.
Selection criteria
- Quality of application (25%): extent to which the proposed activities will increase the applicant’s professional profile, show ambition and potential for growth, and demonstrate that the applicant has the skills to deliver the project.
- Career growth and logical next steps (30%): clarity of project goals and completeness of the application with reasonable attention to detail.
- Evaluation of submitted creative content (30%): quality and distinctiveness of materials such as lyrics, recordings, videos and promotional content, and how they are new, distinct or outstanding.
- Presentation and participation (15%): whether the applicant has taken part in the recommended consultation session with Music PEI and shows a solid understanding of the grant process.

Book a Consultation
Contact Music PEI to schedule a consultation session with a Program Officer prior to application submission.

Prepare Application Materials
- Write a brief cover letter describing your sound, vision, and accomplishments.
- Define the strategic link between your project and the Microgrant Program’s objectives.
- Prepare a summary of your project with goals and timeline.
- Create a simple budget outlining anticipated expenses and revenues.
- Gather creative content such as audio or video samples, lyrics, or designs.

Submit Application
- Compile all application materials including the cover letter, project summary, budget, and creative content.
- Submit your application directly to Music PEI using the contact details provided.

Participate in Consultation (Optional)
Attend the consultation session to better understand the application process and receive guidance.

Await Acceptance
Wait for notification from Music PEI regarding the status of your application.

Complete Administrative Requirements for Successful Applicants
If successful, sign and return the Letter of Acceptance/Investment Agreement within 30 days of receipt.

Project Completion and Reporting
- Complete the project as planned and within the approved budget.
- Submit a Completion Report with a project summary and expense receipts within 60 days of project completion.
Additional information
- Up to eight microgrants are available each year, and applications are accepted on a rolling basis rather than at fixed deadlines.
- Preference is given to youth, women, non-binary, 2SLGBTQ+, racialized, neurodivergent/disabled people, and other underserved minorities.
- All successful applicants receive a complimentary one-year Music PEI membership.
- Applicants are encouraged to book a consultation with a Music PEI Program Officer before submitting their application.
