Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • B.C.-based artists.
  • B.C.-based music companies, including for-profit companies, partnerships, or sole proprietorships.
  • Artists traveling for business development purposes and not for performing or showcasing may apply under the Business Travel Grant Application.

Who is not eligible

  • Applicants with final reports from a previous travel grant or honorarium that remain incomplete cannot receive assistance under this program.

Eligible expenses

  • Airfare, ground travel, accommodation, per diems, communication expenses, fuel, and vehicle rental.
  • If using your own vehicle, the permitted rate is $0.58/km and includes fuel.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Costs related to the production/presentation of live music.
  • Costs related to the production/recording of music.
  • Costs associated with receptions, mixers, networking events, luncheons, award shows, fundraisers, galas, and parties.
  • Capital purchases, alcohol, subscriptions, membership fees, recurring expenses, and expenses paid in cash.
  • Grant writing fees, legal fees, management fees, business registration fees, or fees for financial statements.

Selection criteria

  • Applications are assessed on the completed application form and the quality of the support material.
  • Emphasis is given to applicants who have yet to receive significant funding from Music BC.
  • For applicants who have already received travel grant support, initiatives or markets not yet attended, visited, or funded will be considered.

How to apply

  • Submit the application online via the Music BC website.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed by anonymous, independent peer adjudication panels of three to five people.
  • Juries review applications within eight weeks after an application deadline to select grant recipients.
  • Successful applicants are presented with a contractual agreement, and 75% of the award is released after the signed agreement is returned.
  • To receive the final payment, applicants must submit a completed final report, a spreadsheet of eligible expenses, organized invoices or receipts, and proof of payment.
