Who is eligible?
- Registered owners, assessed owners, or tenants of lands and buildings within the Community Improvement Project Area.
- Agents for the owner or tenant when written consent is provided by the owner.
Who is not eligible
- Businesses that are part of any franchise.
- Greenfield properties.
Eligible expenses
- Purchase of a portable accessibility ramp.
- Façade improvements, including painting exterior doors and trim, installing wall-mounted flagpoles and flags or banners, and installing awnings.
- Signage improvements, including designing and installing blade signage.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Life cycle replacements or maintenance activities.
- Projects or works initiated before an application is submitted.
- Back-lit and neon signs.
Eligible geographic areas
- The Community Improvement Project Area designated by bylaw in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.
Selection criteria
- Projects that focus on beautification in downtown cores are prioritized.
- If an intake-window process is used, applications may be prioritized based on applicant deferral acceptance, whether the property is designated or listed as being of historical interest, the value of the grant sought, the importance and significance of the project or property, or other criteria determined by Council or its designated approval authority.
How to apply
- Submit the application and supporting documentation to the Municipality before starting any community improvement works, in person, by mail or courier, or by email.
Processing and Agreement
- Applications are reviewed and discussed with the applicant after submission.
- The Plan Administrator reviews the application and provides a recommendation to Council or the designated approval authority.
- If approved, a Financial Incentive Program Agreement is executed and payment is made after the approved works are completed.
- If an application is refused, the applicant may be contacted to discuss revising and resubmitting the application.
Additional information
- Program criteria may change over time, and unapproved applications are subject to the parameters current at the time of Council consideration.
- Interpretation of the Community Improvement Plan is at the sole discretion of Council or the designated approval authority.
- In the event of a discrepancy between the Community Improvement Plan document and the Resolutions of Council, the Resolutions of Council and their intent govern.
