Mobility Disadvantaged Transportation Program (MDTP)

Who is eligible?

• Municipal governments that agree to sponsor a service
• Two or more municipalities working together, if one acts as the sponsor of the joint service

Eligible expenses

• Acquiring and operating equipment for transportation services
• Costs during the initial operating period for a new service
• Purchase of a specific capital asset
• Operating costs of providing transportation services for mobility disadvantaged persons

• Submit all applications on the appropriate form.
• Applications for start-up grants, capital grants and replacement vehicle authorization may be submitted with the Initial Application or the Capital Grant and Vehicle Replacement application at any time.
• For capital grants, no financial commitment should be made in anticipation of approval.
• Operators wishing to replace a capital asset must file the appropriate application before any financial commitment is made.

• Requests are screened to ensure conformity with the guidelines, and sponsoring communities are advised whether the grant or authorization has been approved, amended or denied.
• All grant requests are accepted from, and cheques are made payable to, the sponsoring municipal government.
• For approved capital grants, the specified capital asset may be purchased and invoices submitted.
• Cheques are requisitioned after receipt of certified invoices, proof of insurance, a certificate from a qualified mechanic, and a letter of compliance from the manufacturer.
• Annual operating reports, supported by an audited financial statement, proof of insurance, a certificate from a qualified mechanic and applicable operating data, must be received by March 1.
