Who is eligible?

• Manitoba-based health researchers
• Physicians, scientists, nurses, and social workers
• Epidemiologists and other health workers
• Residents and clinical fellows
• Early-career and experienced researchers meeting MMSF criteria

Who is not eligible

• MMSF Board members
• Postdoctoral fellows
• Research associates
• Research affiliates
• Applicants with prior MMSF operating grant funding as PI, except eligible residents and clinical fellows later applying as independent researchers

Eligible expenses

• Personnel salaries for research, technical, and administrative support
• Materials and supplies
• Equipment, when justified
• Travel in special circumstances for field work or facility use
• Other project-related expenses

Ineligible Costs and Activities

• Attendance at conferences, meetings, and symposia
• Institutional costs
• Applications missing required signatures or completeness
• Applications from MMSF Board members
• Applications from postdoctoral fellows, research associates, and research affiliates

Eligible geographic areas

• Manitoba

• Applications are reviewed after submission and eligible candidates are invited to an interview.
• Applicants present their project and answer questions from the panel.
• External peer review may be included in the assessment.
• Funding recommendations go to the Board of Directors for final approval.
• Decision letters are sent after the December Board meeting.

• One application per principal investigator per year.
• Applications in another language need an English translation.
• All correspondence and interviews are conducted in English.
• Successful applicants must submit a final report.
