Eligible expenses

  • Living expenses during the project period, for individual or duo applicants
  • Artist fees, materials, and mentor or consultant fees
  • Professional fees and production costs
  • Travel, venue rental, and essential equipment rental
  • Art materials and supplies for visual arts materials grants

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Creative industries work such as commercial film, music videos, recording, television, publishing, commercial design, architecture, or production crafts
  • Capital purchases, including buildings, property, construction, and equipment
  • Recurring events or core activities
  • Work completed before the deadline
  • Website development for promotional purposes

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed by a multi-disciplinary Peer Assessment Committee.
  • Assessors score and rank applications based on artistic merit, support material, and the ability to carry out the project.
  • Applicants are notified of results 12 to 14 weeks after the deadline.
  • Successful applicants may request feedback from the PAC and may resubmit an unsuccessful project to a later deadline.
  • Funding is released after the signed Terms and Conditions agreement is returned.

  • Applicants may apply to other Arts Nova Scotia programs.
  • One application per category is allowed per deadline.
  • Only one Create grant can be received in a 12-month period.
  • Applications received after the deadline are only considered if proof of email submission by the deadline is provided.
