Who is eligible?
- Applicants affiliated with Canadian non-governmental not-for-profit organizations, including community or charitable organizations, with a research or knowledge translation mandate consistent with CIHR
- Independent researchers, research trainees, activity or event coordinators affiliated with Canadian non-governmental not-for-profit organizations, and community leaders
Eligible expenses
- Costs associated with planning, publication, translation, and dissemination
- Fees or honoraria for the preparation of background documents, such as an environmental scan
- Travel and accommodation for participants
- Meeting rooms and associated meeting costs, such as audio-visual equipment and videoconferences
- Hospitality costs, including non-alcoholic refreshments or meals, and modest honoraria up to $500 CAD for guest experts
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Stipend or salary support for investigators, research trainees, or technical assistants, other than for the aforementioned purposes
- Purchase or maintenance of equipment
- Operating costs of research projects
Selection criteria
- Alignment of the proposed activity objectives with the specific objectives of the CIHR Institute, Initiative, or Branch offering funding
- Clarity of the stated objectives and defined scope
- Likely impact of the anticipated outcomes
- Inclusion of relevant stakeholders and sectors, and potential to catalyze new initiatives or inter- and multi-disciplinary collaborations
- Clearly defined dissemination plans, perceived ability to meet the objectives, and an appropriate budget with justification
How to apply
- Submit the application electronically using ResearchNet.
- Register to obtain a CIHR PIN; if you already have one, do not re-register.
- Register to obtain a ResearchNet account; you should only have one account.
- Log on to ResearchNet and follow the on-screen instructions, providing clear and concise answers in one of the official languages.
- Apply and state the relevance of the proposal to at least one Meetings, Planning and Dissemination Grant funding opportunity; the same application can be used for up to three opportunities if relevant.
- Ensure the application is complete, including all required signatures, and submitted on time to CIHR.
Processing and Agreement
- Applications deemed not relevant to the initiative will be withdrawn from the competition and will not proceed to peer review.
- A CIHR review committee will evaluate the full applications.
- Successful applicants will be informed of any special financial requirements before funds are released or when they receive the Authorization for Funding document.
- Within three months after the activity or event, the Nominated Principal Applicant must submit a final report summarizing the outcomes and how the grant funds were used.
- Grant recipients must acknowledge CIHR Institute, Initiative, Branch, and/or partner support in related communications, materials, or publications, and participate in monitoring, review, evaluation, studies, surveys, workshops, and audits as required.
