Eligibility
Who is eligible?
- Maple syrup producers in Ontario.
- Maple syrup producers with at least 1,000 taps as of April 1, 2023.
- Applicants with a valid Farm Business Registration Number (FBRN), or an eligible religious exemption, cultural exemption, Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program enrollment, or Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification.
Eligible expenses
- Purchase and installation of new or used technology or equipment from a dealer or equipment supplier that increases productivity, efficiency, and growth.
- Rental of equipment that is necessary and directly related to installing eligible technology and equipment.
- Planning a piping system by an independent service provider, such as a certified maple equipment dealer or maple consultant.
- Woodlot improvements by a qualified independent service provider, including tree marking and forest plan development.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Normal operating and maintenance costs, including filter papers, bottles, and labels.
- Building improvements or modifications, and electrical or plumbing upgrades required to use eligible equipment.
- Retail, marketing, or tourism activities; value-added processing equipment; refrigerators, cold rooms, and freezers; new tree planting; water source development; and activities related to PEFFA-required plans.
- Multi-use items such as cameras, printers, shovels, computers, tablets, smartphones, measuring tapes, and vehicles or trailers.
- Ontario-only promotional projects, Ontario government branding, lobbying, fundamental research, expenses with at least 75% government funding, unspecified expenses, wages, gifts, sponsorships, travel, meals, lodging, permits, land or building purchases or leases, new construction, warranties, taxes, legal or financing fees, and related-party purchases.
How to apply
- Read the Program Guide carefully before applying.
- Create an account on the OSCIA Portal and complete enrolment for your business.
- Submit the application form and all required documentation electronically through the OSCIA Portal during an open intake.
Processing and Agreement
- If approved, AASRO sends a written approval email that lists ineligible costs, admissible invoice dates, claim deadlines, required reimbursement documents, and submission instructions.
- The project must be complete, operational, and fully paid before a reimbursement claim can be submitted.
- Each claimed cost must be supported by an invoice issued to the applicant business and acceptable proof of payment.
- Reimbursement is paid by electronic funds transfer to the legal name of the operation; the funding is taxable and an AGR-1 is issued and reported to the CRA.
- AASRO may request additional information, inspect approved projects before payment, and reject project costs or proof of payment if needed.
