Eligible expenses
- Materials, supplies, and equipment related to AIS projects
- Equipment and vehicle rentals and operational costs
- Staffing and human resource expenditures directly related to the project
- Administration and overhead costs directly associated with the project, up to 10 per cent of total project cost
- Management and professional service costs, such as accounting, communications, and design
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Activities that do not relate to any of the project streams outlined above
- Projects directly related to enforcement or compliance with provincial or federal legislation, or activities that require enforcement obligations from the Manitoba government
- Projects or programs that conflict with current provincial mandates
- Activities intended to support businesses or for-profit entities
- Expenditures and costs associated with future fund proposals, previous fiscal years, or cancelled projects
Selection criteria
- Applications are reviewed case by case by a review committee.
- Applications are assessed on their own merits, with committee discretion in approvals.
- Review factors include Required Criteria, Project Description, Organization Capacity and Support, Project Budget, Authorizations, and Project Impact.

- Contact AIS@gov.mb.ca before drafting your proposal to review your idea, share guidance, and receive feedback.
- Submit the completed application form and supporting documents to AIS@gov.mb.ca by email, which is preferred, or by mail.
- When submitting by email, include Manitoba Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention Fund in the subject line.
Processing and Agreement
- Applications are reviewed case by case by a review committee made up of Manitoba AIS Unit staff and, where appropriate, other professionals from the broader Environment and Climate Change department.
- The review committee assesses each application on its own merits and exercises discretion in approvals.
- The review committee makes recommendations to the AIS Director and then to the Minister for approval.
- If approved, the applicant is contacted to discuss next steps and any remaining outstanding documents must then be submitted.
- A signed grant funding agreement is required before funds are disbursed, and final payment of any remaining balances is withheld until both reporting forms are approved.
