Eligibility

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Costs incurred and work started prior to your application being deemed complete
  • Project costs incurred after the deemed complete date but prior to the signing of a contribution agreement, at the applicant's own risk without any obligation of payment by the program
  • New building construction
  • Structural changes to an existing building

Processing and Agreement

  • Your application is considered submitted once you receive the acknowledgement notice.
  • If your application is incomplete, AAFC will contact you for the required information and may place it on hold.
  • If your application is deemed complete, it will be reviewed and assessed against the principles and criteria of the program by program administrators and other technical reviewers within AAFC.
  • If approved for funding, you will receive a written decision letter outlining the level of funding awarded and any other conditions, if applicable.
  • You will work with a program officer to negotiate the details of the contribution agreement, which you must sign to receive funding.

Additional information

  • The intake period is open from June 19, 2026 to July 9, 2026.
  • The program ends March 31, 2027.
  • Priority will be given to national organizations with a national network of not-for-profit community-based organizations that serve Canadians most at risk of food insecurity.
  • Quebec-based applicants must address the Province of Quebec's M-30 legislation and demonstrate compliance during assessment and before entering into a contribution agreement.
