Eligibility
Who is eligible?
- Postdoctoral researchers who are officially affiliated with an eligible institution.
- Stream 2 applications must include one applicant based in Canada and one based in a Nordic country, plus a co-applicant based in a different Nordic country.
Who is not eligible
- Students enrolled in a program of study.
Eligible expenses
- Student and non-student salaries or stipends.
- Consulting fees for professional and technical services.
- Travel and subsistence costs.
- Supplies, software, and office materials directly related to the project.
- Equipment or tools needed for the research.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Original research.
- Projects whose main goal is curriculum development.
- Remuneration of team members, except where Indigenous remuneration rules apply.
- Course release time.

Selection criteria
- Challenge: importance of the topic and expected contribution (40%).
- Feasibility: method, work plan, knowledge mobilization, and budget (30%).
- Capability: team expertise and relevant experience (30%).
- Applications must score at least 3.0 in each criterion.
How to apply
- Step 1: Create a Convergence Portal account
- Go to the Convergence Portal.
- Select your language and create an account.
- Follow the confirmation email instructions.
- Step 2: Complete the application form
- Select the funding opportunity in the portal.
- Answer eligibility questions and accept the terms.
- Complete your profile, CV information, keywords, and proposal sections.
- Step 3: Upload required attachments
- Attach the proposal, references, knowledge mobilization plan, budget documents, and tri-agency CV.
- For Stream 2, include both SSHRC and NordForsk budget forms.
- Step 4: Institutional approval and submission
- Submit the application to your research administrator or authorized institutional representative.
- They review, approve, and forward the application to SSHRC.
- The status changes to received by agency once submitted.
Processing and Agreement
- Applications are reviewed through a competitive merit review process.
- Funding decisions depend on committee recommendations and available funds.
- Applicants receive results through SSHRC’s applicant portal.
- Successful applicants must comply with reporting requirements during the grant period.
