Who is eligible?
- Applicants at all stages of their research career.
Who is not eligible
- Principal applicants may only submit or hold ONE application to the Kidney Health Research Grant.
- If you are applying as an ECR, you cannot include another principal applicant on your application.
Eligible expenses
- Research operating costs
- Purchase of materials, supplies and equipment
- Payment of laboratory assistants
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Applications for equipment only will not be considered.
Selection criteria
- The Kidney Foundation gives priority to early career researchers in the field of kidney research.
- Patient-oriented research should show engagement with lived experience partners or communities and a clear patient-focused outcome lens.
- The research should align with one of the priorities identified in the new KFOC Research Framework.
- Three-year grants require a score in the excellent to outstanding category from the Kidney Health Scientific Committee.
- A maximum of three three-year grants for early career researchers within the excellent to outstanding range will be awarded each year.

- Set up a profile on proposalCENTRAL.
- Search for “Kidney Foundation of Canada” or “Kidney”.
- Fill out the Kidney Health Research Grant application.
Processing and Agreement
- Incomplete applications will not be considered.
- Confirmation of application submission is by ProposalCentral.
- Please notify the KFOC if you decide to withdraw your application.
- If the project changes appreciably from the LOI to the full application in a way that raises eligibility concerns, the Kidney Foundation reserves the right to withdraw the application from the competition.
