Eligibility

How to apply

  • Submit a 1-page letter of intent to Parkinson Canada at research@parkinson.ca.
  • Include the background of your initiative, the rationale for KMRIF funding, the current funding status of the project, the desired outcome or research question, the main aims or milestones, the budget, and the timeline for completion.
  • You may schedule a meeting with Parkinson Canada Research before submitting the letter of intent.
  • For meetings, consortia or strategic partnership initiatives, submit a description of the initiative purpose, key stakeholders and event, plus a budget; for research projects, clinical trials or transformational research studies, submit a biographical sketch, project narrative, budget, and supplementary materials.

Processing and Agreement

  • LOIs are reviewed internally by Parkinson Canada in consultation with the chairs of the Research and Clinical Advisory Committee and the Scientific Advisory Council to evaluate fit for KMRIF funding and decide the review path.
  • Funding requests of $20,000 or less for meetings, consortia or strategic partnership initiatives can be reviewed by the Parkinson Canada Research Team and may not require peer review.
  • Projects that have already undergone peer review by a recognized research funding agency and have successfully received grant funding may be eligible for KMRIF funds without a formal peer review process.
  • If a project has no new aims, a short application may be requested; if new aims are proposed or formal review is required, Parkinson Canada may request a full application and expert external reviewers may be recruited to assess it.
  • Final approval and notice of funding are contingent on Board approval.
