Journalism Futures Fund updated
The Journalism Futures Fund page now shows a live Project Funding stream marked open, and the project stream is listed as opening June 17, 2026. The fund’s pilot phase is now shown as 2025-2030, funding rounds open one to two times per year, and the page says more than $3.5 million had been contributed as of May 2026 while $1.875 million had been invested in Canadian independent media so far. Eligibility language was broadened: the prior size thresholds of between one and ten team members and an annual budget of less than $1,000,000 CAD are no longer shown, and applicants are now asked to complete the eligibility quiz for the funding stream of their choice. The scope language also shifted toward editorial excellence, equity, financial sustainability, and community realities, while the project stream is now described as funding for projects led by one or more organizations.
