Overview
The iVisit program provides eligible Canadian SMEs with up to 20 hours of funded collaboration with a Technology Access Centre (TAC) to address innovation challenges. Eligible activities include technical or economic feasibility assessments, prototype development, technology access, and expert scientific or business advice to support innovation and competitiveness.
Activities funded
- Collaboration to evaluate the feasibility of new products, processes, or services.
- Short-term research and development support, including prototype development.
- Access to advanced technology and equipment not available within your company.
- Receiving objective scientific, technical, or business advice to solve innovation challenges.
- Customized staff training on new technologies or processes.

Eligibility
- The applicant must be an incorporated Canadian for-profit firm.
- The company must have fewer than 500 employees.
- The business should have potential to grow through innovation.
Who is eligible?
- Incorporated Canadian for-profit firms with under 500 employees
- Companies seeking to solve innovation challenges with applied research or technology adoption
- Businesses requiring short-term R&D assistance or prototype development
- Firms interested in accessing cutting-edge technology not available in-house
- Companies from all sectors, particularly those led by traditionally underrepresented groups (women, Indigenous persons, visible minorities, persons with disabilities)
Who is not eligible
- Unincorporated businesses in Canada (e.g., sole proprietorships or unincorporated partnerships).
- Businesses with 500 employees or more.
- Non-profit organizations.
- Non-profit entities, research institutes, and public organizations.
Eligible expenses
- Access to cutting-edge technology and equipment not available in-house.
- Technical and economic feasibility assessments for new products, processes, or services.
- Short-term research and development assistance, including prototype development.
- Objective scientific, technical, and business advice provided by multidisciplinary teams.
- Custom training module development and delivery for employees on new technology.

- Companies incorporated and operating anywhere in Canada.
How to apply

Define your innovation challenge
- Identify your company’s innovation challenge or technical need
- Gather detailed background information relevant to your challenge

Fill out the request form
- Complete the Interactive Visit (iVisit) Request form
- Provide contact details and company background
- Describe your innovation challenge in detail
- Attach supporting documents if available
- Mention any deadlines or time constraints

Receive confirmation and assessment
- Receive acknowledgment of your request from Tech-Access Canada
- The TACs will internally review your submission within two business days

Discuss and collaborate with TAC
- Discuss your challenge with the designated TAC(s)
- Sign mutual Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) before discussions
- Collaborate to develop solutions with the TAC experts
Additional information
- Participation of companies owned by women, Indigenous persons, members of visible minorities, and persons with disabilities is encouraged.
- TACs offer flexible intellectual property (IP) policies that allow companies to commercialize research results and IP developed through the program.
- All company information submitted is securely stored according to Tech-Access Canada’s privacy policy, and confidentiality of requests is maintained.
- Collaboration and discussions with TACs take place only after mutual NDAs are signed.
