Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Innovative SMEs from EU Member States, Iceland, Israel, Norway, Switzerland, Türkiye, or the United Kingdom
  • Startups from EU Member States, Iceland, Israel, Norway, Switzerland, Türkiye, or the United Kingdom
  • Foundations can apply only if they are an SME according to the European Union definition

Eligible expenses

  • Personnel, subcontracting, purchasing costs, travel and subsistence, equipment depreciation, other goods, works and services
  • Indirect costs calculated automatically at a 25% flat rate of total direct eligible costs, excluding subcontracting

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Costs incurred before the grant decision
  • Costs incurred outside the official project period
  • Costs claimed retroactively after the project has ended

Selection criteria

  • Excellence (18/30): project objectives, ambitiousness, degree of innovation, competitive advantage, alignment with SME’s overall business strategy, and co-creation or technology adaptation
  • Impact (24/40): market size, impact on end user, market access and risk, and societal, environmental, ethical and gender relevance, especially in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals
  • Quality and efficiency of the implementation (18/30): capacity and role of the applicant SME and the main subcontractor, availability of resources, realistic and clearly defined project management and planning, and reasonable cost structure
  • Complete and eligible applications are evaluated by three remote experts and scored out of 100; the top 105 proposals scoring above threshold progress to the independent evaluation panel and ethics review

How to apply

  • Register on SmartSimple
  • Complete the application form in English, with all fields mandatory, and invite the counterpart to sign a commitment after the project description has been filled in
  • Upload the workplan using the mandatory template provided
  • Submit the completed application electronically before the call deadline

Processing and Agreement

  • Complete and eligible applications are evaluated by three remote experts, one acting as rapporteur, using the online call management platform
  • An individual evaluation report is prepared for each proposal, followed by a consensus report approved by the experts
  • An independent evaluation panel decides a ranking list, and an ethics panel discards applications that do not comply with relevant ethics requirements
  • The first 70 successful SME market feasibility project coordinators are sent a Grant Agreement to be completed and duly signed within the period specified in the notification email
  • The remaining 30% is transferred at the end of the six-month project after delivery and acceptance of a complete Final Report; if the report is not acceptable, additional information may be requested within one month

  • The call is bottom-up, so applicants decide the focus of the project
  • Innowwide is mono beneficiary; entities in target countries may benefit indirectly as subcontractors, but they are not party to the grant agreement
