The Indigenous Justice Program’s Capacity-Building Fund supports skill development and knowledge-building in Indigenous communities for the establishment and management of community-based justice initiatives. Eligible activities include training, evaluations, data collection, bridging events with the justice system, policy changes, and the development of new programs; the maximum funding amount is not specified.

Eligibility
- The applicant may be a First Nations, Inuit, or Métis organization, including Chiefs and Band Councils or Tribal Councils.
- Regional or municipal governments and their agencies or institutions may apply.
- Non-profit community organizations, societies, and associations formed for non-profit purposes are eligible.
- Provincial and territorial governments may be eligible.
- For-profit corporations may apply, provided they do not profit from the work performed.
- Academic institutions, including colleges, universities, and associated law faculties or Indigenous Law Institutes, are eligible.

- Academic institutions (colleges, universities, faculties of law, Indigenous Law Institutes)
Eligible expenses
- Expenses related to continuing education and staff skills development.
- Expenditures for data collection and evaluation activities.
- Costs associated with the development and sharing of promising models and practices.
Eligible geographic areas
- Organizations and entities located across Canada.
Selection criteria
- Priority given to certain eligible initiatives or activities based on ministerial priorities and resources.
- Possibility of fund allocation based on geographic location to ensure representation across Canada, where possible and reasonable.
