Overview of the Indigenous Genomics Training and Capacity Program program

The Indigenous Genomics Training and Capacity Program offers funding of up to $750,000 to support projects that advance genomic innovations in energy and environmental solutions. Eligible activities include initiatives aimed at building training and capacity within Indigenous communities to leverage genomic technologies in these sectors.

Financing terms and conditions

  • Funding available up to $400,000 per project from Genome Canada.
  • A maximum of two projects will be funded.
  • The funding term for each project is up to three years.
  • Co-funding is encouraged but not required.

Eligibility criteria of the Indigenous Genomics Training and Capacity Program program

  • The applicant must be Indigenous-led, supporting First Nations (status and non-status), Métis, or Inuit participation.
  • The project must focus on building Indigenous capacity in genomics, including training and career development.
  • The proposal must integrate Indigenous knowledge systems, values, and perspectives.
  • The application must be submitted through Genome Canada’s Proposal Central Portal via a regional Genome Centre.
