Activities funded
- Developing or supporting the organizational capacity of Indigenous communities or organizations to participate in, direct and/or undertake assessments, and to deliver information, data and studies that support the implementation of regional or strategic approaches or project EAs/IAs.
- Strengthening awareness of EA/IA issues within Indigenous communities through outreach activities.
- Designing and delivering workshops, training programs or materials related to EA/IA for Indigenous Peoples, communities or organizations.
- Documenting current uses of the land or resources, identifying impacts on rights and environmental, health, social or economic impacts, and documenting Indigenous knowledge.
- Participating in, leading and/or directing project EA/IA, regional and/or strategic processes, leading community engagement and coordinating consultation, and participating in or leading follow-up and monitoring activities.

- Travel Expenses, including travel kilometres/flights, meals, incidentals and accommodation
- Honoraria for Elders and ceremonial offerings, including costs associated with providing Indigenous or community knowledge relevant to the engagement activity; the Elder cannot be in receipt of a salary or any other direct income for the activity for which an honorarium is claimed

Selection criteria
- Ability to serve a large number of rights-holding communities or members in regions where major projects are anticipated.
- Indication of community or member support for the applicant and/or delivery approach.
- Demonstrated expertise in providing support to communities.
- Demonstrated expertise in environmental/impact assessment or a particular element such as GBA+.
- Stream 2 eligible applications are assessed on a first come, first served basis, subject to the availability of funds.
How to apply
- Step 1: Review program requirements

- Confirm the relevant stream and required criteria for your initiative.
- Step 2: Prepare the submission
- Draft an expression of interest or proposal describing the organization, initiative, objectives, activities, outputs, timeline, and budget.
- Include evidence of community or member support where required.
- Step 3: Send the application
- Email the expression of interest to iaac.ip-pa.aeic@canada.ca in Word or PDF format.
- For targeted processes under Stream 3, follow the application instructions provided directly by IAAC.
- Step 4: Develop full proposal if requested
- If invited by IAAC, work with program representatives to prepare a detailed proposal and budget.
Processing and Agreement
- Applications are reviewed based on program criteria, priorities, and funding availability.
- For some streams, IAAC may contact applicants to clarify missing information or develop a more detailed proposal.
- IAAC usually communicates funding decisions within two months after the application deadline.
- Successful applicants receive a contribution agreement to sign.
- Reimbursement requires a detailed financial report with supporting invoices or receipts.
