Who is eligible?

  • Agriculture, food, and seafood businesses
  • Sector organizations in agriculture, food, or seafood
  • Private businesses in BC’s agrifood and seafood sectors
  • Cooperatives, industry associations, boards, councils, and non-profit organizations

Who is not eligible

  • National sector organizations and non-BC-based members
  • Private for-profit businesses applying under Stream 2
  • Restaurants and other food service operations
  • Pet food and health or nutrition supplement operations
  • Tobacco-related sector organizations

Eligible expenses

  • Consultant fees for assessment, planning, implementation, and recall exercises
  • Purchase, licensing, and installation of traceability hardware and software
  • Staff training for traceability system implementation
  • Incremental cost of multi-use electronic devices
  • First-time GS1 Canada registration fee

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • GST and in-kind expenses
  • Capital costs such as vehicles, furnishings, land, and buildings
  • Capacity-increasing equipment or facility modifications
  • Software maintenance, updates, and unrelated development plans
  • Consumables, taxes, duty, shipping, and day-to-day operating costs

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are screened and reviewed by IAF after submission.
  • Some applications may also be reviewed by a technical expert.
  • Incomplete applications may be returned for resubmission.
  • Funding decisions are emailed within 8 weeks of a complete application.
  • Approved projects are subject to terms and conditions and may be audited.

Additional information

  • Applications are submitted through the IAF Client Portal.
  • Funding is prioritized for Livestock, Seafood and Aquaculture, and Stream 2 applications until targets are met.
  • Approved projects may begin only after approval.
  • Funding acknowledgement is required for public communications about the project.
