Overview
The Hosting Program – International Single Sport Events (ISSE) provides Canadian National Sport Organizations with up to $250,000 per event to support the hosting of international single sport competitions such as World Championships and Olympic or Paralympic qualifiers. The program aims to enhance high-performance sport development and the international profile of Canadian sport organizations by funding eligible activities including event operations, athlete travel, and initiatives promoting Indigenous inclusion.

Activities funded
- Hosting senior international single sport events such as World Championships located in Canada.
- Organizing senior World Cup events, senior Continental Championships, and World University Championships that are included in the Olympic or Paralympic competition calendar.
- Conducting junior-level international events like Junior World Championships, Junior World Cup events, and Junior Continental Championships included in the Olympic or Paralympic program.
- Staging annual international single sport events recognized on the Olympic or Paralympic program, with priority for events offering competitive opportunities for under-represented groups.
Eligibility
- The applicant must be a Canadian summer or winter National Sport Organization (NSO).
- The organization must have evaluated high-performance programs aligned to the Canadian High-Performance Sport Strategy.
- The proposed sport discipline must be included on the competition calendar of the Olympic Games or Paralympic Games.
- The event must be identified in the NSO’s Hosting Plan and be part of its high-performance and long-term athlete development competition plans for national team athletes.

Who is not eligible
- Organizations that are not recognized as Canadian National Sport Organizations (NSOs) for summer or winter sports.
- Entities whose main activity is outside the field of high-performance sport aligned with the Canadian High-Performance Sport Strategy.
- Companies seeking funding for sports not included in the programs of the Olympic or Paralympic Games.
- Organizations that do not have their event identified in an NSO’s Hosting Plan and high-performance competition plans.
Eligible expenses
- Operating costs related to competition or venue (including promotion and communication)
- Travel expenses, including transportation, accommodation, and per diem (subject to Government of Canada rates)
- Administration expenses (up to 15% of the funding request), such as salaries, benefits, professional fees for general administration, bank charges, and utilities
- Purchase of eligible carbon offset credits from verified vendors for travel-related activities
- Professional development and training focused on Indigenous inclusion and cultural uniqueness, including volunteer and reconciliation training
- Honoraria for Indigenous facilitators
- Costs for partnership development and relationship building with Indigenous organizations and communities
- Development and delivery of program content or policy focusing on Indigenous inclusion, such as land acknowledgements, ceremonies, Indigenous spaces, and educational content
- Resource design, printing, distribution, and Indigenous language support (including translation)
- Travel, meals, accommodation, and facility rental for partnership or development opportunities related to Indigenous inclusion initiatives

Submit application to Sport Canada

Await application review and results
- Await confirmation of receipt from Sport Canada (within two weeks)

Additional information
- Applications are accepted on a continuous basis but must be submitted between six and 24 months before the event, depending on funding amount requested.
- In-kind contributions may count toward project costs but are not reimbursable.
- Successful applicants must publicly acknowledge Government of Canada support in both official languages in all communications materials and promotional activities.
- Applicants must retain original invoices and accounting records for up to six years for potential audits.
