Documents Needed

  • Employment statements, Employment Insurance statements, Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security Pension, and other pension or income statements.
  • Federal and provincial child tax credit documents and Ontario Student Assistance Program information.
  • Utility bills or a letter or notice from the utility company.
  • Rent receipt or mortgage statement, property tax statement, eviction notice, proof of citizenship, and a copy of the lease.

Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Homeowners, renters, and individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Eligible renters may live in market-rate, affordable, or Rent-Geared-to-Income (RGI) housing.

Who is not eligible

  • Ontario Works clients
  • Ontario Disability Support Program clients

Eligible expenses

  • Rent, mortgage, property tax arrears, and utility arrears.
  • Damages with a Landlord and Tenant Board ruling.
  • Small home repairs.
  • Moving and start-up costs.
  • First and/or last month’s rent and required tenant insurance.

How to apply

  • Become a client of one of the authorized agencies listed below.
  • Speak with your agency worker about your need for the Homelessness Prevention Fund.
  • Complete the application with the agency and obtain approval to submit it.
  • If your application is declined, request a review in writing within 10 business days.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed and approved by Salvation Army Kingston Community & Family Services.
  • Authorized agencies help complete and submit the application.
  • If the application is declined, a written review may be requested within 10 business days.

  • Income levels are effective as of January 1, 2025, and may change.
