Eligibility
Who is not eligible
- Businesses (program intended for residential homeowners in Ontario, not for organizations).
- Businesses wishing to finance the replacement of an existing heat pump system (the program only targets new installations).
- Businesses located outside of eligible areas (non-eligible postal codes; program offered only in targeted areas).
- Businesses with buildings constructed after February 26, 2024 (not eligible according to program rules).
- Businesses whose primary heating is not electric (the program targets buildings with electric heating).
Eligible expenses
- Purchase and installation of a new heat pump (cold climate air source heat pump or ground source heat pump).
- Purchase and installation of a smart thermostat, when installed at the same time as the heat pump.
Eligible geographic areas
- Ontario — homes located in eligible postal code areas (including: Barrie/Muskoka; Elmira; Kenora; Kingston Area; Mississauga/Brampton; Niagara Region; Ottawa; Pembroke Area; Peterborough/Belleville; Southern Huron Perth; Toronto; Waubaushene; Windsor Essex; York Region).
How to apply
- Step 1: Confirm participation readiness
- Determine if you qualify for the program.
- Find a contractor registered/verified with the program to size and install the heat pump.
- If your contractor is not registered, have them contact the program team at hespcontractors@summerhill.com to join.
- Step 2: Submit pre-installation form (register interest)
- Before installing the heat pump, complete and submit the pre-installation form to indicate your interest in receiving an incentive.
- Review the application checklist to ensure you have everything needed for a successful submission (the form will not automatically save your answers).
- Wait for approval and follow the instructions provided to proceed (submission does not guarantee acceptance).
- Step 3: Install the heat pump (program-verified contractor)
- Work with your program-verified contractor to schedule and complete the installation of your chosen heat pump.
- Step 4: Submit post-installation form (within 90 days)
- Within 90 days of installation, complete and submit the post-installation form to confirm the heat pump has been installed.
- Attach required documentation such as the final invoice.
- If your application is deemed incomplete, update your submission within 10 business days.
- Step 5: Send/coordinate application with the program (submission support)
- If needed, your contractor can submit the HomeEnergySaver application forms on your behalf.
- To apply or get submission support, call the program at 1-888-795-3352.
- If you need to provide missing/correct documents after submission, upload them to the participant portal or email the program team at info@hesprogram.ca to have them uploaded on your behalf.
- Step 6: Receive incentive payment (after approval)
- Receive the incentive once your post-installation application has been received and approved.
- Watch for notice indicating when you can expect the incentive payment.
Additional information
- Enrollment for the HomeEnergySaver program is now closed; heat pump incentives are now available through the Home Renovation Savings Program.
- Participants are limited to one heat pump incentive and one smart thermostat incentive per home.
- Incomplete applications may be updated within 10 business days after being deemed incomplete.
- Incentives may be stacked with other programs, provided the total incentives received do not exceed the project’s total cost.
