The Heritage Property Grant Program - Matching Grant provides up to $35,000 in funding to support the restoration of designated heritage buildings in Ottawa. Eligible activities include work that restores the building's original heritage character, such as restoring masonry, porches, and windows.

Financing terms and conditions

  • Matching grant of up to $10,000 for small-scale buildings and up to $35,000 for large-scale buildings.
  • Minimum grant amount is $1,000.
  • Grant covers 50% of eligible restoration project costs; for example, a $10,000 project receives a $5,000 grant.

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be the owner of a property designated under Part IV or Part V of the Ontario Heritage Act.
  • The property must be located within the City of Ottawa.
  • The proposed project must involve restoration of the property's original heritage character, prioritizing character-defining attributes if individually designated.
  • For properties within a heritage conservation district, only contributing properties (Category 1, 2, or 3, or Grade I) are eligible.

Who is eligible?

  • Owners of small-scale designated heritage buildings located in Ottawa
  • Owners of large-scale designated heritage buildings located in Ottawa

Who is not eligible

  • Government and public agencies, including municipal (City of Ottawa), federal, provincial governments, and school boards.
  • Crown corporations.
  • Foreign embassies.
  • Owners of non-contributing (Category 4) buildings in Heritage Conservation Districts.
