Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Community museums
  • Non-profit museums
  • Public institutions operated by a historical society, library, university, local government, or Indigenous government

Who is not eligible

  • Aquaria, botanical gardens, and zoological gardens
  • Interpretive centres that do not maintain collections
  • Archives
  • Societies and associations

Eligible expenses

  • Normal operating expenses
  • Wages and benefits
  • Utilities, taxes, insurance, materials and supplies
  • Routine maintenance, exhibits, and building repairs or improvements

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Start-up costs
  • Capital expenditures
  • Budget deficits
  • Purchases of collections
  • Aquaria, botanical gardens, zoological gardens, archives, and interpretive centres without collections

Selection criteria

  • Clear Statement of Purpose
  • Required public opening days and hours
  • Majority ownership of the collection
  • Reasonable attendance for the museum’s area and size
  • Level II policy requirements on file

How to apply

  • Step 1: Prepare the application
    • Complete the application form in full.
    • Gather the required financial statements and annual report or meeting minutes.
    • Include the Statement of Purpose and, for Level II, the required policy documents.
  • Step 2: Submit the application
    • Send the application by post, fax, or email.
    • Submit it to the Historic Resources Branch, Manitoba Sport, Culture, Heritage and Tourism.
    • Make sure it is sent on or before June 1.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed only when submitted in full.
  • Applications received late or incomplete may not be funded.
  • Applicants must agree to comply with the program guidelines and related conditions.
