Activities funded
- Restoration works for eligible buildings or enclosing walls, including work on the roof, windows, doors, exterior cladding, masonry, galleries, and protective painting
- Commercial façade renovation at ground-floor level on an eligible building
- Design, fabrication, and installation of carved wooden or wrought-iron signs when other eligible ground-floor commercial façade work is carried out for at least 2,000 $
- Retractable awnings, ornamental iron grilles, demolition of nearby accessory buildings, and restoration works needed to protect architectural features such as underground electrical service, plumbing, or ventilation
- Charlesbourg heritage landscaping work and archaeological interventions linked to eligible work or lead water-service replacement
Documents Needed
- An affidavit or solemn declaration confirming that the information provided is true and complete and that the applicant owns the building or enclosing wall, or is duly authorized by the owner
- Any plan or document the director considers necessary given the nature of the request and the work
- A copy of the permit issued by the city, the documents produced in support of it, and the prepared plans and specifications
- Documents establishing the estimated cost of the work
- A research permit under article 68 of the Loi sur le patrimoine culturel, when required
Eligibility
Who is eligible?
- The owner of an eligible building or enclosing wall, including an emphyteote.
- A person duly authorized by the owner of the eligible building or enclosing wall to make the request.
Who is not eligible
- Any building or enclosing wall owned in whole or in part by the city or its agents
- Any building or enclosing wall owned in whole or in part by the provincial or federal governments or their agents
- Any building or enclosing wall owned in whole or in part by a public or parapublic corporation whose majority of members is appointed by a government or whose majority of funding comes from a government source
- An official place of worship

- Labour costs
- Material costs
- The cost of the issued permit and the tariff imposed by article 39.4
- Professional fees for preparing plans and specifications, plus other expertise fees related to the eligible work
- GST and QST paid by the owner, less any amount recovered
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Windows and counter-windows made of aluminum, vinyl, polyvinyl chloride, anodized metal, or thermal glass
- Exterior shutters, counter-shutters, and persiennes made of aluminum, vinyl, polyvinyl chloride, or anodized metal
- Doors and counter-doors made of aluminum, vinyl, polyvinyl chloride, anodized metal, or thermal glass
- Asphalt paving
- Works on a façade of an eligible building that has already received a subsidy or reservation under the program for renovating façades on a commercial artery

Selection criteria
- Subsidies are granted to the owner by order of the date of subsidy applications, depending on the arrondissement concerned by the application.
- No application can be produced or accepted once the funds provided for in article 22 are exhausted.
How to apply
- Submit the request on the form provided by the city.
- Attach the required supporting documents.
- Pay the tariff imposed by the applicable tariff by-law for the request.
Processing and Agreement
- The director may carry out the inspections he or she considers necessary.
- When all conditions are met, the director confirms the provisional subsidy reservation.
- The work must be completed within one year after the reservation confirmation, otherwise the reservation is cancelled.
- The city-prepared signage must be installed in a ground-floor window on the main façade until the subsidy is paid.
- After completion, the payment request must be filed within three months with the required invoice and supporting documents, and the city issues the cheque if all conditions are met.
