Eligibility
Who is eligible?
- Low-income Nova Scotians who pay for their own home (residential) heat.
- Applicants with a 2025 net income of $30,000 or less who live alone with no kids or dependents.
- Applicants with a combined 2025 net household income of $45,000 or less who live with kids, dependents or other adults; single parents must receive the Canada Child Benefit.
- Applicants who receive Income Assistance, the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) or the Allowance from Service Canada.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Heating that’s included in rent
- Electricity usage that’s less than 5,000 kWh per year
- Heating for investment or income properties
- Heating for seasonal or recreation properties
- Heating for commercial or business properties

- It can take longer if more information is needed or if your application hasn’t been filled in correctly.
