Eligible expenses
- Purchase and installation costs of a new heating system powered by electricity or renewable energy sources, including heat pumps and electric boilers.
- Complete removal and dismantling of the existing oil or propane central heating system and associated tanks.
- Purchase and installation costs of a new water heater powered by electricity or renewable energy, if it is converted simultaneously with the main heating system.
- Contractor services for the dismantling, removal, and installation work (must be performed by contractors holding the appropriate RBQ license).

How to apply
- Step 1: Plan Your Project
- Choose the type of renewable energy system (e.g., electric heating system, heat pump) to replace your oil or propane system.
- Decide if you will also convert your water heater at the same time.
- Research and select a qualified contractor licensed by the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) for the work.
- Step 2: Complete Eligible Work
- Have all conversion work, including removal of the oil or propane tank and dismantling of the current heating system, performed by a certified contractor.
- Ensure installation of a new heating system and (if applicable) water heater powered by electricity or renewable energy sources, using only new equipment.
- Collect all invoices and documentation from your contractor, including their RBQ license number on the invoice.
- Step 3: Gather Supporting Documents
- Proof of home ownership (property assessment roll, tax notice, or notarial deed).
- Most recent electricity bill (before work began), containing homeowner’s name, property address, and all required information.
- Latest fuel bill or annual delivery statement (oil or propane), with homeowner’s name, address, delivery date, and fuel details.
- Invoices for purchase and installation of the new heating system and, if applicable, new water heater, showing address, homeowner’s name, company name, RBQ license number, date, system details, and cost.
- Step 4: Complete the Online Application Form
- Access the Chauffez vert financial assistance application form online (form available in French only).
- Attach all required supporting documents. You cannot save progress or complete the form later—have all materials ready.
- Submit your application no later than March 31, 2026 (deadline).
- Step 5: Confirmation of Submission
- Receive an automated email confirming the reception of your application.
- Shortly thereafter, receive another email with your Chauffez vert application file number.
- If you do not receive these emails, promptly contact customer service.
- Step 6: Provide Additional Documents if Requested
- If the size or number of your supporting documents exceeds upload limits, send the extra documents by email, indicating homeowner’s name, property address, and Chauffez vert file number.
- Respond promptly if the program requests further information or documentation. You have until June 30, 2026 to supply any missing information.
- Step 7: Secure Transmission of Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- If you qualify, follow instructions received by email to securely submit your SIN. Do not send your SIN by email.
- Step 8: Application Review and Payment
- The program administrator will review your application and documentation. You will be notified by email of your eligibility or ineligibility.
- Once approved and after all requirements are fulfilled, you will receive payment by cheque within 4 to 6 weeks after confirmation of file completion.
- Your work may be subject to inspection within 12 months of grant payment.
