Eligibility
- The applicant must be a registered non-profit society, community service co-op, social enterprise wholly owned by a non-profit, registered charity, or First Nations Band in good standing with relevant authorities.
- The applicant must have an independent, volunteer-based governing body, with provisions against Board director remuneration and staff as voting Board members.
- The project must address social issues impacting the Hastings-Sunrise neighbourhood, with activities delivered within the defined neighbourhood boundaries.
- The organization must have a proven record of successful program delivery, be financially stable, and show the ability to benefit residents or businesses in Hastings-Sunrise.
- The applicant’s policies and practices must demonstrate inclusion, diversity, and compliance with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the BC Human Rights Code.

- Companies whose main focus is employment training or initial settlement programs.
- Organizations delivering direct welfare support, including food banks, meal programs, or provision of clothing.
- Businesses primarily engaged in housing services, one-on-one counselling by licensed professionals, formal recreational or educational programs, legal services, or research activities.
Eligible geographic areas
- Programs and activities must take place within the Hastings-Sunrise neighbourhood in Vancouver, British Columbia.
- Organizations based in Vancouver, BC are eligible; those outside Hastings-Sunrise must demonstrate strong partnerships with organizations based within the neighbourhood.
Selection criteria
- Demonstrated capacity and resources to effectively deliver the proposed program within the Hastings-Sunrise neighbourhood.
- Ongoing programming with clear and measurable benefits for residents or businesses in Hastings-Sunrise.
- Advancement of City priorities and strategies, specifically supporting Vibrant Vancouver and Healthy City Strategy objectives.
- Reasonableness and comparability of proposed expenses to similar programs.
- Strength of collaborative partnerships, especially if the applicant is not based within Hastings-Sunrise.

- The Hastings Legacy Fund is currently piloting a multi-year funding cycle (2024-2027), allowing for up to three years of support.
- Applicants who were not funded in the previous year or are applying for the first time are encouraged to consult with a grants planner before submitting their application.
- There is no appeal process for grant decisions after recommendations are made by City Council.
