Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Institutions and organizations registered as educational or charitable under the Canadian Income Tax Act may apply.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Capital investment such as playgrounds, computers, and audio-visual equipment is avoided for educational resources.
  • Very large financial requirements or long-term capital investments are avoided for health and welfare projects.

Eligible geographic areas

  • British Columbia

Selection criteria

  • Applications are judged on their merits.
  • Priority is given to youth or at-risk individuals, especially under-represented populations, in amateur athletics.
  • Priority is given to marginalized youth and youth at risk in educational resources.
  • Priority is given to projects with significant community engagement or multidisciplinary structure in cultural and creative arts.
  • Preference is given to projects with added value or longer-term or sustainable benefits in health and welfare.

Prepare supporting documents

  • Print two copies of the completed application form.
  • Include the required supplementary documents and evidence of charitable registration from the Canada Revenue Agency website.
  • Confirm that your institution or organization is registered in good standing as educational or charitable under the Canadian Income Tax Act.

Submit the application

  • Send the two printed copies of the completed application form.
  • Mail the application to The Hamber Foundation c/o David Yau at the Vancouver address provided.
  • Submit before the annual deadlines of March 15 or September 15.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are judged on their merits and given precedence accordingly.
  • Successful and unsuccessful applicants are notified of the Board of Governors’ decision by June 15 and December 15.
