GreenShield Cares now shows British Columbia eligibility for the Essential Medicines program, including residence in British Columbia, MSP enrolment, and Fair PharmaCare enrolment, alongside a BC application path. The Essential Medicines page also now shows up to $1,000 in prescription drug coverage for 12 months from the enrolment date, with free delivery and no out-of-pocket costs, copays, or deductibles. The Digital CBT content also now presents a complimentary one-year Digital CBT offer with optional six months of coaching, and the initiative is narrowed to women’s mental health and mild-to-moderate anxiety and depression. Several intake and “Read more” destinations were updated, including new application and support links that change how applicants reach the program.

Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Individuals aged 15 to 29 in Canada can access the Youth Mental Health program.
  • Individuals 18+ in Canada who identify as women, non-binary, or gender non-conforming can access the Women’s Mental Health program.
  • Residents of Ontario, Nova Scotia, and Alberta who are currently employed and meet the income and drug coverage conditions can apply for Essential Medicines.
  • Residents of British Columbia who are currently employed, aged 19+, and meet the income and coverage conditions can apply for Essential Medicines.

Who is not eligible

  • Ontario, Nova Scotia, and Alberta applicants enrolled in a private or employee prescription drug plan are not eligible for Essential Medicines.
  • Ontario, Nova Scotia, and Alberta applicants enrolled in or currently participating in a provincial drug program are not eligible for Essential Medicines.
  • British Columbia applicants who are not enrolled in BC Medical Service Plan (MSP) and Fair PharmaCare are not eligible for Essential Medicines.
  • British Columbia applicants enrolled in a private prescription drug plan are not eligible for Essential Medicines.

How to apply

  • Select your province to begin the Essential Medicines application process.
  • Use the relevant provincial application link, or download the application for Ontario, Nova Scotia or Alberta and email the completed form to essentialmedicines@greenshield.ca.
  • For Youth Mental Health, select Through an employer or organization.
  • Choose I have an organization code and enter YMH2.
  • For Women’s Mental Health, select Through an employer or organization.
  • Choose I have an organization code and enter WELLBEING.

  • GreenShield Cares includes Essential Medicines, Oral Health, Mental Health, and Women’s Mental Health initiatives.
