Who is eligible?
- Organizations incorporated in Canada.
- For-profit and not-for-profit organizations, including commercial enterprises, co-ops, industry-led consortia, and collaborative partnerships involving industry, Indigenous organizations, and academia carrying out business in Canada.
- Organizations with 10 or more employees.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Projects focused solely on increasing agricultural production.
- Proposals primarily intended to facilitate or coordinate the activities of other organizations without directly implementing the project or owning assets and/or intellectual property.

Selection criteria
- Projects are competitively assessed on how well they support the National Food Security Strategy’s objectives, including stronger food production and processing capacity, improved supply chains, and economic benefits.
- Priority is given to projects ready to move to an executed agreement and deliver measurable outcomes in the near term.
- Priority is given to projects that help Canada produce, process, package, or distribute food and food-related products within Canada while improving long-term food security and economic resilience.
- Priority may be given to projects that introduce new technology, innovation, modernization, new products, or major operational improvements.
- Priority may also be given to projects that create demand for Canadian-made products, materials, and equipment.
How to apply
- Submit an expression of interest outlining your organization, your project, project costs and expected outcomes.
- Complete a full application if your project meets the initial eligibility requirements.
- Undergo assessment and due diligence.
Processing and Agreement
- Eligible companies receive a full application package after the expression of interest stage.
- Applications are assessed against the criteria during a set period of time.
- Selected projects may proceed to due diligence review, which can include financial, technical, market, and organizational assessments.
- Successful applicants are considered for a formal funding offer outlining funding amount, terms and conditions, reporting requirements, and project commitments.
- Contribution agreement negotiations follow funding decisions for successful projects.

- If a project is selected, the applicant receives a more detailed application package for further assessment, prioritization, and due diligence.
