Overview

The Genomics Innovation to Commercialization Program offers funding of up to $900,000 to support research and development projects that transform genomics research into commercial solutions. Eligible activities include collaborative projects between Quebec companies and research institutions focused on accelerating innovation and facilitating the commercialization of genomics-based technologies.

Financing terms and conditions

  • Total project budget must be between $300,000 and $900,000 or more.
  • Genome Canada funding must be equal to or less than the contribution from private sector partner(s), with a minimum of $100,000.
  • Co-funding requirement: minimum 1:2 ratio (Genome Canada versus all other eligible sources); co-funding can be cash or in-kind if provided from within Canada.
  • Génome Québec provides additional funding of $100,000 to $300,000 for eligible expenses incurred in Québec.
  • Funding from Genome Canada and Génome Québec can only be allocated to the academic institution for project-related expenses.

Eligibility

  • The project must involve a for-profit Quebec company (start-up, SME, or large enterprise) with an economic interest in marketing an innovation arising from genomic research.
  • The project must integrate a researcher affiliated with an eligible academic institution in Quebec (university, CCTT, research institute, hospital, or NPO with an explicit research mandate).
  • The project must aim to transform advancements in genomics or other omics sciences into concrete commercial applications.
  • The project must promote collaboration between a Quebec company and a public research center.

Who is eligible?

  • For-profit Quebec businesses (startups, SMEs, or large companies) with an economic interest in the commercialization of innovations resulting from genomic research.
  • Researchers affiliated with an eligible academic institution in Quebec (university, CCTT, research institute, hospital, or non-profit organization with an explicit research mandate).

  • Project-related expenses incurred by the academic institution in Quebec.
