Overview
The GeneSolve Program from Genome British Columbia provides up to $250,000 per project to co-fund applied and translational genomics research that addresses sector challenges in BC. It supports activities that apply or advance genomics to deliver practical solutions and socio-economic benefits in sectors such as health, forestry, agriculture and agrifood, fisheries and aquaculture, mining, energy and the environment.
How to apply

Define project and partners
- Identify a relevant sector challenge whose solution requires or advances genomics and would bring socio-economic benefits to BC
- Engage a Sector Partner willing to co-fund at least 50% of the project and an eligible Academic Partner based in BC
- Confirm that the Academic Partner meets institutional and appointment eligibility criteria
- Clarify any actual or perceived conflicts of interest between the Academic and Sector Partners

Secure commitments and documents
- Obtain from the Sector Partner a letter of commitment confirming at least 50 % co-funding for the project
- Gather supporting financial documents from the Sector Partner demonstrating their funding contribution
- Ensure both partners agree to Genome BC’s data sharing, data release and intellectual property policies

Confirm intake details with Genome BC
- Contact Genome BC at genesolve@genomebc.ca to obtain general program information and confirm timelines for the next intake
- Connect with and begin working alongside a Genome BC Research & Innovation Manager as required
- Review the GeneSolve Program Guidelines (PDF) and any applicant guides provided

Set up Proposal Central account
- Create an account on Proposal Central, Genome BC’s online system for submitting GeneSolve applications
- Familiarize yourself with the Proposal Central interface and the Applicant’s Guide, if available
- Ensure all team members who need access are registered and linked to the application as required

Submit Expression of Interest
- Prepare the required information and documents to complete the Expression of Interest (EOI) for Intake 7
- Submit the EOI through Proposal Central by November 28, 2025, before 2 p.m. PST
- Verify that the EOI submission is complete and correctly transmitted in the system

Receive EOI eligibility decision
- Wait for notification from Genome BC confirming EOI eligibility and, if applicable, invitation to submit a full application
- Review any feedback or conditions provided with the EOI eligibility notification

Submit full application and budget
- Prepare the full application and detailed budget in Proposal Central, following GeneSolve Program Guidelines
- Ensure the project budget respects the minimum total budget of $100,000 and the matching requirements
- Submit the completed application and budget to Genome BC by February 5, 2026, before 2 p.m. PST

Receive written reviews
- Await written peer reviews of the application, which will be sent by February 24, 2026
- Review the feedback and the provided template for preparing your response to the reviews

Submit response to reviews
- Draft a detailed response to the written reviews using the template supplied by Genome BC
- Address all reviewer comments and clarify or update application elements as needed
- Submit the team’s response to reviews to Genome BC by March 9, 2026
10
Await final funding decision
- Wait for Genome BC’s final funding decision following review of the application and responses
- Receive notification of results scheduled for June 10, 2026
