The Fuel Savings Transportation Program provides up to $250,000 in rebates to commercial transportation businesses in New Brunswick for the purchase and installation of fuel-saving devices. This initiative aims to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by supporting eligible upgrades such as aerodynamic devices, low-rolling resistance tires, anti-idle technologies, refrigeration systems, and fuel-efficient driving technologies.

Financing terms and conditions

Up to $250,000 in total annual rebates per eligible recipient.
Aerodynamic devices: Up to 30% of purchase and installation cost, maximum $3,000 per device.
Low-rolling resistance tires: Up to 30% of purchase and installation cost, maximum $1,500 per truck or trailer.
Anti-idle technologies: Up to 50% of purchase and installation cost, maximum $6,000 per device.

Eligibility criteria of the Fuel Savings Transportation Program program

The applicant must be the owner or an authorized operator of a commercial transportation business in New Brunswick.
The business must operate medium or heavy-duty commercial vehicles (gross vehicle mass of 4,500 kg or more), including truck trailers and semi-trailers, registered in New Brunswick.
Eligible upgrades and devices must be purchased from a New Brunswick retailer or distributor and installed by an accredited professional.
All equipment must be new and installed on or after April 1, 2025.

Purchase of new eligible aerodynamic devices such as side skirts, underbody fairings, rear fairings (boat tails), trailer top/side deflectors/fairings, cab roof deflector/fairings, and reducers.
Purchase of new low rolling resistance tires, including dual tires and wide-base single tires, for trucks or trailers.
Purchase of new anti-idle technologies, such as auxiliary power units and auxiliary bunk/cab heaters and coolers.
Purchase of new electric refrigeration units for commercial vehicles and trailers.
Purchase of new fuel-efficient driving devices, such as speed limiters.
Installation costs by an accredited professional for eligible devices and products.

How to apply to the Fuel Savings Transportation Program program

Step 1: Purchase and Installation of Qualifying Devices
- Purchase eligible fuel-saving devices and products from a New Brunswick retailer or distributor.
- Ensure all devices are installed by an accredited professional.
- Confirm that devices and installations meet the eligibility criteria and are completed on or after April 1, 2025.
Step 2: Prepare Supporting Documentation
- Gather copies of signed Certificate of Vehicle Registration.
- Obtain invoices and receipts/proof of payment for all eligible devices and products.
- Obtain invoices and receipts/proof of payment for installation costs.
- Complete and sign the Direct Deposit Enrolment Form.
Step 3: Submit Application Online
- Complete the online rebate application form via the NB Power portal.
- Upload all required supporting documents as attachments in the final step of the application form.
Step 4: Application Review by NB Power
- NB Power will review your application and documents for completeness and eligibility.
- If any information or documents are missing, NB Power will contact you within 30 business days.
Step 5: Receive Rebate Payment
- If your application is approved, receive your rebate by direct deposit within 60 days (or by cheque if direct deposit details are not provided).

Additional information

Program rebates are available on a first-come, first-served basis until allocated funds are depleted.
There is an annual cap of $250,000 in rebates per eligible recipient.
Rebates are available retroactively for upgrades purchased and installed on or after April 1, 2025, until March 31, 2026.
All eligible devices and products must be purchased new from New Brunswick retailers or distributors and installed by an accredited professional.
