Who is eligible?
- First Nation Bands under the Indian Act.
- First Nations signatory to a self-government agreement with Canada.
- Inuit Treaty Organizations.
- Métis governments signatory to a self-government agreement with Canada.
- First Nation representative organizations authorized by eligible First Nation governments to apply for and administer their share.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Reimbursing Indigenous households or businesses for amounts paid into the fuel charge.
Eligible geographic areas
- Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario for 2020-21 to 2024-25.
- New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador for July 2023 to 2024-25.

How to apply
- Submit the required information package as soon as possible.
- Email fprcga-fcpfig@ec.gc.ca to initiate the process to access the fuel charge proceeds.
Processing and Agreement
- Environment and Climate Change Canada will support eligible recipients to access their allocation as quickly as possible.
- The department will follow up by email and phone as needed.
- If a recipient has not responded, the department will reach out through Indigenous Services Canada or Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada.
- Regular follow-ups will be conducted to facilitate the return of fuel charge proceeds.
