The French Language Services Program offers up to $50,000 in funding to support projects that promote and protect the French language and the vitality of Nunavut's Francophone community. Eligible initiatives include direct services or activities benefitting French-speaking individuals, non-profit organizations, and municipal corporations.
Financing terms and conditions
- Maximum contribution per project is $50,000, subject to available funding.
- Payment is made in two installments, as outlined in the Conditional Contribution Agreement.
- Exceptions above the $50,000 maximum may be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to required approvals and demonstration of exceptional strategic benefits.
- Government liability is limited to the authorized funding amount and does not cover any budget shortfalls or deficits.
- Funding is provided once per fiscal year, with an annual reporting period from April 1 to March 31.

How to apply

Prepare funding proposal and documents
- Prepare a complete funding proposal including project description, objectives, budget (revenues and expenditures), and a project timeline
- Gather all required documentation as indicated in the funding guidelines

Submit funding proposal
- Submit the completed funding proposal and all supporting documents to the Department of Culture and Heritage
- Ensure submission is made within the defined application period

Proposal under review
- The Working Group reviews all funding proposals and makes recommendations to the Director of Official Languages
- Manager of Francophone Affairs may review certain proposals if timelines require rapid assessment

Receive funding decision
- Receive notification of funding decision from the Department of Culture and Heritage
- If approved, review the terms of the Conditional Contribution Agreement, including payment schedule and reporting obligations

Submit achievement report
- Submit achievement report outlining the benefits achieved compared to expected results as indicated in the proposal
- Comply with any additional reporting and audit requirements specified in the agreement
