Guidelines for Use of an Intermediary Organization for Charitable Activities

Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Registered charities
  • CRA-qualified donees, including First Nations Band Councils
  • School District No. 64
  • Registered charities working in partnership with a non-registered organization

Who is not eligible

  • For-profit businesses
  • Organizations without registered charitable status, unless applying through a registered charity partnership

Eligible expenses

  • Special projects or programs for children and youth
  • Capital equipment or furnishings for child and youth programming
  • Wage assistance for direct project work
  • Honorariums

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Activities outside Salt Spring Island or not primarily benefiting local children and youth
  • Partisan, political, or election-related activities
  • Profit-generating activities, including direct fundraising events
  • Ongoing operating expenses, staff salaries, and rent
  • Sponsorships, endowment funds, fundraising capital, donations, and sub-granting
