Documents Needed
- The most recent annual report, donor report, annual general meeting report, or activities report for stakeholders (e.g. newsletter).
- The most recent financial statements (signed and dated by your accountant or accounting firm, or approved by your organization's board of directors or management committee – draft financial statements will not be accepted – presented on the letterhead of the accountant or accounting firm).
- Governance documents, ideally including your local or federal registration number.
- Incorporation documents, if applicable (articles of incorporation or letters patent), provincial registry document, trust deed, if applicable.
- The most recent corporate tax returns (2023 or 2024) : T2 Return or short T2 return (if incorporated), Non-Profit Organization Information Return (form T1044).
Eligibility
Who is eligible?
- A registered charity or non-profit organization, including Indigenous governing bodies.
- An incorporated non-profit organization, such as a community group, an Indigenous nation or community, a school board, a school, or a local organization registered at the federal or provincial level.
- Municipalities.
- Local branches of provincial or national charities and local charities with multiple branches may apply if they manage their own accounting and finances.
- Multiple branches may apply if they are separate legal entities.
Who is not eligible
- A for-profit organization.
- A non-incorporated non-profit organization.
- A commercial non-profit institution (professional associations, chambers of commerce, condominium associations, etc.).
- An individual.
Eligible expenses
- Direct administrative costs related to the project.
- Communications, translation and interpretation services.
- Fees for contractors or professional services, honoraria, and project evaluation costs.
- Materials and supplies.
- Staff salaries and employment-related costs, training and workshop fees, travel and transportation costs.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Activities that take place outside Canada or are not open to the target community.
- One- or two-day events without lasting impact.
- Partisan, political, or election-related activities, projects focused solely on research, religious activities, or those that require participation in a religious practice.
- Activities that benefit individuals or private interests, projects intended to build endowment or reserve funds, structured sports or recreation activities led by adults, virtual programs for children.
- Projects that focus solely on purchasing play equipment without including activities that promote outdoor play, funding requests solely for operating expenses without a concrete project, large infrastructure projects, purchases of electronic devices, activities that infringe upon or violate the rights of the protected person in Canada.
