Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Initiatives whose primary purpose is to reform or influence specific areas such as the justice system, health care, migration, housing, education, environmental policy or poverty reduction.
  • Local journalism initiatives.
  • Initiatives primarily centered on socio-economic rights or criminal law matters.
  • Initiatives focused on advocating for specific redistributive or fiscal policy outcomes, particularly where the work is strongly associated with partisan or ideological economic positioning.

Selection criteria

  • Applications are assessed based on alignment with the Foundation’s priorities rather than a target acceptance rate.

How to apply

  • Complete the short eligibility quiz.
  • If eligible, complete the full application form.
  • Applications can be saved and completed over multiple sessions.
  • The Application Questions are available in advance for offline preparation.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis.
  • Funding decisions are typically made four times per year.
  • Response timelines are generally between three and six months.
  • After review, the Foundation may contact applicants if additional information or clarification is required.

Additional information

  • Organizations may generally only receive one grant from the Foundation at a time, except when applying with another implementing partner, provided that the organizations are governed and led independently of one another.
  • Renewal of funding beyond the granting contract is never guaranteed.
