Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • B.C. First Nations individuals
  • B.C. First Nations communities, governments, bands, and tribal councils
  • First Nations-led organizations located in B.C.
  • B.C. First Nations-led museums, cultural spaces, schools, and adult education centres in B.C.

Who is not eligible

  • Individuals who are the project lead on more than one application for the same deadline
  • Organizations that do not meet the First Nations board composition requirement
  • Applicants who are not based in B.C. or do not meet the B.C. residency requirement

Eligible expenses

  • Project-specific salaries and wages
  • Elder or Knowledge Holder consultation fees
  • Artist, mentor, and elder honoraria
  • Materials, supplies, equipment, and specialized tools
  • Travel, accommodation, transportation, space rentals, administration, research, and training

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Costs not directly related to the project
  • Expenses incurred before the application deadline
  • Business development costs, such as business cards, mass production of items, and logo design
  • Capital purchases, including vehicles, building improvements, or land improvements

Selection criteria

  • Projects that revitalize community arts traditions whose vitality is threatened are prioritized.
  • Collaborative projects are prioritized.
  • Projects should respond to the program’s guiding questions.
  • Applications should demonstrate respect for B.C. First Nations cultural protocols, traditions, and Indigenous law.
  • Successful projects are selected in part to reflect the diversity of B.C. First Nations cultures.

How to apply

  • Step 1: Review the guidelines
    • Read the general funding guidelines and the Arts Vitality Grant guidelines.
    • Discuss your project with Arts Program staff if needed.
  • Step 2: Prepare the application
    • Complete the application form and project materials.
    • Gather work samples, support letters, financial statements, and other required information.
  • Step 3: Submit through the Grant Portal
    • Log in to FPCC’s online Grant Portal.
    • Submit the full application before the deadline.
  • Step 4: Follow up after submission
    • Be prepared to respond to requests for more information.
    • If approved, sign the funding agreement before funding is released.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed through FPCC’s Grant Portal after submission.
  • Select applicants may be invited to a site visit during the project period.
  • Approved applicants must sign a funding agreement before the first payment is issued.
  • A final report and budget review are required before the last payment is released.

  • Projects may be selected for a site visit by FPCC.
  • Final reports are due after project completion and must include the full grant amount.
  • Funding is paid in two installments after approval and reporting requirements are met.
  • Applications are submitted through FPCC’s online Grant Portal.
