Overview
The Fabulous Festivals and Events Program offers up to $5,000 in grant funding to support distinctive festivals and events that boost local service sector revenues and promote Northern British Columbia as a tourism destination. Eligible activities include organizing and hosting annual festivals or events within the Northern Development Initiative Trust's service region.

Activities funded
- Organization of unique festivals that promote local tourism in northern British Columbia.

- Execution of established festivals or events that enhance the community's distinct character and attract visitors.
Eligibility
- The applicant must be located within Northern Development’s service region in northern B.C.
- The applicant must be a registered non-profit organization, or an unregistered non-profit with a minimum of three years of financial statements.
- The application must be for a single festival or event per year.
- All required application documents, including financial statements, event brochure, and incorporation documents, must be provided.
Who is eligible?
- Registered non-profit organizations located within Northern Development’s service region
- Unregistered non-profit organizations (with at least three years of financial statements) within Northern Development’s service region
Who is not eligible
- For-profit businesses and corporations.
- Events organized by political groups or for political purposes.
- Organizations hosting religious events.
- Industries focused on fundraising events as their main activity.
- Organizations conducting industry-based events, such as oil, gas, cattle, or forestry industry gatherings.
Eligible geographic areas
- Organizations located within Northern Development's service region in Northern British Columbia.
Selection criteria
- Completeness of the application, including all required documents and supporting materials.
- Demonstration of how the event promotes or strengthens the unique character of the community.
- Explanation of how the funding will be used to increase hosting capacity.
- Details provided regarding the direct economic benefits for the local or regional economy and attraction of tourists.
- Submission of accurate financial statements, event brochures, and organizational incorporation documents as required.
Additional information
- Applications must be submitted at least six weeks before the festival or event date.
- Applicants can only apply for one festival or event per year.
- If approved for $5,000, final disbursement is contingent on confirming actual expenses met or exceeded $50,000.
- Reporting requirements include submitting photos and, if applicable, financial statements within 60 days post-event.
