Overview

Provides up to $5,000 to help get children active in hockey in Alberta. Funding supports player assistance and community programs such as try-hockey, floor hockey, and pond hockey initiatives.

Activities funded

  • Player financial assistance to enable current or new youth participants to play hockey
  • Creating a new program to recruit new hockey players
  • Supporting an existing program focused on recruiting new hockey players
  • Organizing floor hockey clubs, try-hockey programs, and pond hockey programs or events
Examples of admissible projects:

Six-week try-hockey sessions with loaner gear for new players

After-school floor hockey club with equipment, space rental, and fee waivers

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be an Alberta-based organization or individual.
  • The idea, project, or program must align with Every Kid Every Community guiding principles.
  • The initiative must help establish an event or program to get local children active in hockey.

Who is eligible?

  • Amateur sports organizations
  • Minor hockey organizations and Local Minor Hockey Associations (LMHAs) and clubs
  • Youth groups
  • Recreation groups
  • Community groups and community leagues (including pond hockey programs)

Who is not eligible

  • For-profit businesses running commercial hockey programs or ventures

Eligible expenses

  • Renting space for activities (e.g., floor hockey club)
  • Renting ice for hockey programming (e.g., try hockey program)
  • Purchasing equipment for hockey programs
