This CIHR Operating Grant supports a Canadian component of a joint transnational One Health antimicrobial resistance project to advance innovative, cost-effective AMR treatment options, with up to Can$600,000 total (Can$200,000 per year for up to 3 years). Eligible activities must address Topic 3 by assessing how veterinary and agricultural use of antibacterial and antifungal drugs affects AMR emergence and transmission to humans and the environment, and improving formulations, dosage, delivery, routes of administration, and treatment regimens to inform policies restricting certain antimicrobials for exclusive human use.

Eligibility
Who is eligible?
- Independent researchers affiliated with Canadian postsecondary institutions and eligible affiliated institutions.
- Indigenous non-governmental organizations in Canada with research or knowledge translation mandates.
- Researchers and organizations participating in a transnational AMR consortium.
Who is not eligible
- For-profit companies (the Nominated Principal Applicant must be an independent researcher affiliated with a Canadian postsecondary institution/affiliated institution, or affiliated with/being an Indigenous non-governmental organization with a research and/or knowledge translation mandate).
- Organizations or projects focused only on animal health, plants, food and/or the environment without including human health research activities (CIHR will not fund these).
- Applicants/projects that do not address the required call topic for CIHR funding (Topic 3); proposals outside this topic will not be deemed relevant and will not receive CIHR funding.

- Applications are reviewed through the EUP OHAMR review and evaluation process.
- CIHR also conducts a relevance review using the full application.
- To be deemed relevant, the project must align with CIHR’s mandate, Topic 3, and human health.
