Equitable Excellence Scholarship eligibility and renewal rules updated
The Equitable Excellence Scholarship® Program now states that applicants must be public high school seniors planning to enroll in college by Fall 2027, and students from private or home schools are not eligible. Academic performance was added to the selection criteria, and renewal participation now includes the virtual Senior Leader Meet & Greet plus at least two professional development workshops each year of college. The renewal language also changed from a four-year scholarship timeline to a renewal period of up to three years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever comes first. The page also now says students who have previously received the scholarship will receive a January email invitation to renew instead of submitting a new application.

Who is eligible?
- Current high school seniors at a public high school in one of the 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico who plan to enroll full-time in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States for the entire upcoming academic year.
Who is not eligible
- Applicants from private or home schools.
- Employees, associates, financial professionals, or immediate family members of employees, associates, or financial professionals of Equitable, Equitable Advisors and all Equitable affiliated companies or Scholarship America, or their affiliates, subsidiaries, or advertising and promotion agencies.

Selection criteria
- Financial need and academic performance.
- Leadership and participation in school and community activities, awards, and honors.
- Work experience.
- Unusual personal or family circumstances.
- A personal statement that demonstrates ambition and self-drive to give back to the community by encouraging other students to pursue post-secondary attainment.
Processing and Agreement
- Eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.
- Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America.
- In no instance does any officer or employee of Equitable Foundation play a part in the selection.
- Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Equitable Foundation, and payment is made in August.
- All applicants will be notified in early spring, and all applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Have a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale, demonstrate ambition and self-drive to give back to their communities, and agree to a publicity release.
