Overview

Natural Resources Canada’s Energy Innovation Program — Off-Site Construction Challenge supports the design and demonstration of innovative off-site construction solutions to build more energy-efficient and resilient multi-unit residential buildings, offering up to $180,000 in Phase 1 grant funding and up to $10 million in Phase 2 contribution funding. Eligible activities include planning and developing an OSC building design (Phase 1) and bringing the selected design to life through implementation (Phase 2).

Activities funded

  • Plan and develop an off-site construction (OSC) building design for more energy-efficient and resilient multi-unit residential buildings (Phase 1 design grant).
  • Design and demonstrate innovative off-site construction methods to modernize residential construction and improve energy performance (Challenge scope).
  • Build and implement the selected OSC design as a large-scale multi-unit residential project (Phase 2 contribution).

Eligibility

  • Submit a Phase 1 Design Grant application through the official application portal by 1:00 p.m. ET on March 27, 2026.
  • Propose a project that designs and demonstrates innovative off-site construction (OSC) methods for multi-unit residential buildings.
  • The proposed design must aim to improve energy efficiency and resilience of the resulting residential building(s).
  • Be eligible to apply to Phase 1 (open to all eligible applicants, as defined in the applicant guide).
