Overview
Énergir’s Efficient Renovation grant supports business customers renovating a building’s thermal envelope to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy costs, with a maximum of $100,000 per fiscal year per Énergir account number. Eligible activities include replacing windows, improving wall and roof insulation, and sealing the building (air-leak reduction), provided the work improves energy performance versus before the renovation.
Activities funded
- Renovation of buildings aimed at improving the thermal envelope (walls, roof and windows).
- Replacement of windows as part of a renovation project improving the building’s energy performance.
- Insulation work on the walls and/or roof as part of a renovation improving the building’s energy performance.
- Building airtightness project (reduction of air leaks) as part of a renovation.
Eligibility
- Be a current or future Énergir customer with an Énergir account number assigned (following a contract signed with a Commercial Representative).
- Operate in the commercial, institutional, industrial, or multi-unit housing sector (four or more units).
- Use natural gas for space heating (if more than one energy source is used, natural gas must represent at least 30% of heating energy use, or the applicant must be a dual-energy customer).
- Carry out renovation work that improves the building’s thermal envelope (e.g., insulation of walls/roofs, window replacement, building sealing/air leak reduction).
- Demonstrate improved energy performance compared to the building’s pre-renovation condition.
Who is not eligible
- Businesses that are not current or future Énergir customers (e.g., without an assigned Énergir account number).
- Organizations whose activities do not fall within the targeted sectors (therefore outside the commercial, institutional, industrial sectors, or multi-unit residential buildings of 4 units or more).
- Businesses whose building does not use natural gas for heating (or for which natural gas accounts for less than 30% of heating energy, and that are not dual‑energy customers).
- Businesses submitting a request for less than $500 (not eligible).
Eligible expenses
- Purchase and installation of eligible windows and wall components (renovated).
- Purchase and installation of eligible roof renovation work (attic roof or other type of roof).
- Costs of airtightness tests (blower door) and caulking/sealing work related to these tests.
Selection criteria
- Compliance of the project with the program requirements, according to Énergir’s review of the application.
- Meeting the performance criteria to be exceeded (as specified in the program documentation).
- Program budget availability: Énergir may limit the number of projects when the budget envelope is exhausted.
