The program provides up to $3,000 per organization per year to support parasport and para recreation initiatives in Durham Region. Eligible activities include programs, equipment, infrastructure, events or competitions, and other projects such as research.
Activities funded
- Delivering para sport and recreation programs
- Undertaking para sport and recreation equipment initiatives
- Implementing para sport and recreation infrastructure projects
- Hosting a parasport event or competition
- Carrying out other related projects (e.g., research)
Examples of admissible projects:

Run an eight-week seated volleyball program with adaptive equipment

Stage a para sport try-it day with wheelchair basketball and boccia

Eligibility
- The applicant must be a Durham Region-based organization.
- The project must support residents of Durham Region.
- The initiative must aim to grow para sport and recreation opportunities and participation.
- The request must relate to parasport activities, programs, equipment, and/or events offered within the Regional Municipality of Durham.

- For the Durham Region Para Sport & Recreation Opportunities Fund, recipients will be notified in November.
Additional information
- Established as a legacy of hosting the Durham Region 2023 Ontario Parasport Games.
- The Region of Durham partnered with the Durham Community Foundation to create two separate funds (Opportunities Fund and Legacy Fund).
